What's the difference among URL Rewrite, 301 Redirect, and 302 Redirect?

The Squarespace URL shortcuts feature allows you to create shorter URLs for pages on your site, as well as set 301 or 302 redirects.

The URL Rewrite method will place your page content at both the URL shortcut you've created, as well as your original page location.  This method loads content the fastest among our three shortcut navigation methods, and preserves the shortcut URL in the browser address bar.

The 301 redirect should be used if you want consistent results across all search engines.  A 301 redirect tells search engines that the page has permanently moved.

The on-domain 302 redirect is a temporary redirect. You can set this if you want a URL to recycle among different posts/pages, or temporarily point to a new page for a period of time. This tells search engines to check the new page location but to keep indexing the old page, since this will be re-established at the original location in the future.
