Adding videos

You can embed videos on HTML and Journal pages.

Squarespace 5 supports embedding videos from supported host services. We recommend hosting videos with YouTube, Vimeo, Animoto, or Wistia. These services are highly respected for their streaming quality, upload ease, and video playback control.

We don't support direct video uploads. Using externally hosted videos helps your site load faster, enables visitors to share your videos, and provides greater options for video hosting.

Watch a video

Step 1 - Upload a video

Before embedding a video on your site, upload the video to a supported external host. Click the links below for the instructions for these popular hosts:

Ensure that your video isn't set to private on your host's page, as only public videos will render properly on your site.

Step 2 - Get the embed code

On your video host's site, locate the embed code for your video. Often you'll have to click Share to see the code. If you can't find your video's embed code, we recommend contacting your hosting service.

Highlight and copy the code by pressing Ctrl + C on Windows, or  + C on a Mac.

Here's how the embed code looks on YouTube:

Step 3 - Insert embed code on your website

While logged into your website, open the page where you want to add the video. Open Content Mode, and use the page annotations to edit the page content.

In the WYSIWYG, click the video icon.

Paste your embed code in the Insert Video field by pressing Ctrl + V on Windows, or  + V on a Mac. Then click Save & Close.

The video will appear on your page.
