Changing comment permissions

By default, any visitor can leave comments on your site. This guide explains how to restrict who can comment on your Journal, Guestbook, and Discussion pages, or disable comments altogether.

Note: On Squarespace 5 sites, CAPTCHA fields can't be completed, which prevents visitors from leaving comments. We recommend disabling CAPTCHA.

Journal pages

To update the settings for all blog post comments:

  1. Go to your Journal page.
  2. Enter Structure Mode.
  3. Click Configure This Page.
  4. Scroll down to the Commenting / Permissions Options section.
  5. Use the Comment Permissions drop-down menu to choose who can comment.

This doesn't disable new comments on existing posts; instead, disable those manually. To delete previous comments, visit Managing comments.

To disable comments after a specified time period on all future blog posts, enter a number from 1 to 90 in the Auto Disable Comments field. For example, if you enter 5, each new blog post will disable comments five days after publication.

Journal posts

To update the settings for an individual blog post:

  1. Go to your Journal page.
  2. Enter Content Mode.
  3. Click Modify on the blog post.
  4. Check or uncheck Enable Comments.
  5. Click Save & Close.

This prevents further comments from being added to the post. To delete previous comments, visit Managing comments.

Discussion and Guestbook pages

To update the settings for all Discussion and Guestbook page comments:

  1. Go to your Discussion or Guestbook page.
  2. Enter Structure Mode.
  3. Click Configure This Page.
  4. For Discussion pages, scroll to the Discussion Options section. For Guestbook pages, scroll to the Simple Discussion Options section.
  5. Use the Posting Permissions drop-down menu to choose who can post.

Delete existing posts in your site's Comment & Discussion Management area.
