The footer is the bottom section of your site, below your page content. The footer is often where visitors look first for contact information, social icons, FAQs, and links to important information.
In Squarespace 5, you can add text and custom code to the footer.
Note: Adding code to your site is an advanced modification that falls outside of the scope of Squarespace support.
Before you begin
- Some pages also support page footers.
- If your site doesn't have Structure Mode, it was probably built on our older legacy platform, Squarespace 4. For Squarespace 4 sites, edit footers and headers in Website Settings.
Step 1 - Open the editor
After logging into your site:
- Enter Structure mode.
- Scroll down to the bottom of your site.
- Click Edit Website Footer.
Step 2 - Add your content
Add text or HTML to the WYSIWYG. You can also click Generate Creative Commons License or Generate Standard Copyright to add a creative commons icon or standard language.
When you're done, click Save & Close.
Example: Adding links
The WYSIWYG editor only accepts plain text and HTML.
For example, to add links to your footer, you'd add HTML like this:
<a href="http://www.thisisthelink.com">This is the text.</a>
Replace the URL with the URL you want to link to, and replace This is the text with what you want the link to say.
Creating code with the WYSIWYG
As an alternative to creating your own code, you can use the WYSIWYG editor for a page or post to set up your code.
- Add a new page or post.
- In Content mode, open the post editor.
- Add your text to the WYSIWYG and format it the way you want.
- In the top-right, click HTML.
- Your content will convert to HTML. Highlight this code and copy it by pressing Ctrl + C (⌘ + C on a Mac).
- Open the footer editor and paste in the code by pressing Ctrl + V (⌘ + V on a Mac).
- Click Save & Close.
Your changes will appear on your site.
About Creative Commons licenses
You can add an optional Creative Commons license icon to your footer. A Creative Commons license is an alternative to a standard copyright message that shows how others can share or distribute your content. To learn more, visit creativecommons.org.
