You can link your own domain name with your Squarespace site using our Domain Mapping feature. This feature is available to all plan levels.
The following instructions are for configuring your domain in Dreamhost's control panel. These instructions assume you have already registered a domain with Dreamhost, and can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the Internet.
Note: You must use Dreamhost's nameservers in order to successfully map a domain.
Step 1 - Login to Your Dreamhost Account
Using the Panel login link in the top right corner of the screen at http://www.dreamhost.com/, enter your login credentials and click Log In.
Step 2 - Access Your Dreamhost Account Settings & Domain Names
Once your account has been accessed, click the Domains link in the Main Menu on the left and then click Manage Domains.
Step 3 - Deactivate Fully Hosted setting
Under the Web Hosting column, if it says that your domain is Fully Hosted / user: you, then click the delete button to stop Dreamhost from providing hosting for the domain.
Note: This will not delete the contents of your domain's folder/directory within your Dreamhost account, accessible via FTP.
Once you delete the Fully Hosted option your domain entry should look like this:
Step 4 - Access DNS Settings for your Domain Name
Click on the link below your domain name DNS. This will load a screen with your domains DNS settings.
Step 5 - Point Your Domain to Squarespace (Part 1 - CNAME Record)
Scroll down to the Add Record Now! section. For the Name you need to add www. Set the Type to CNAME. The Value is ext5-cust.squarespace.com. (don't forget the period after com). You can add a Comment if you wish but it's not required. Before confirming the new record your fields should look like the screenshot below. Click Add Record Now!
Step 6 - Point Your Domain to Squarespace (Part 2 - A Records)
Again, scroll down to the Add a custom DNS record to mydomain.com section. Leave the Name blank. Set the Type to A. The Value is 220.127.116.11. You can add a Comment if you wish but it's not required. Before confirming the new record your fields should look like the screenshot below. Click Add Record Now!
Repeat this process three more times using the following values:
Step 7 - Link To Your Squarespace Site
Login to your Squarespace website. Navigate to the [Website Management > Structure > Custom Domain] area. Click the Link Domain option and add your custom domain to the domain URL field.
Once you've linked your domain it will appear in the Custom Domain area immediately. Both the www and non-www version of your domain are automatically added and you can toggle your domain to display the version you prefer by clicking the Toggle WWW link next to the domain.
Note: DNS updates can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate on the web depending on your provider. You can use these steps to check the status of your domain at any time.
